Inventive fundraising - bikers for pads!
A few years ago the word of a very special fundraising event reached us. Since then we have waited for the day this blog platform is live for us to share this event with you. Without further ado, here are BIKERS FOR PADS!
Hi Rona! Can you tell us about Bikers for Pads, what kind of event was it?
The Biker week event is an event held every year in Botswana, Gaborone, by a community of our biking society, locally as well as neighbouring countries around Botswana.
Who came up with the idea to host this event?
This was initiated by a gentleman, called Oteng Pierro Dipheko, who then approached my cousin Lady Noble, and my self Rona Tshiamo to team up with him and work around this event to raise funds for the girl child in rural and semi rural areas.
How was the reactions from the society, what did people say about it?
The response has been an impressive one, and the intention is to continue with this event until it become effortless and well taken in and accepted in all our communities, that menstruation isn’t crime, but rather “ beginning of life” for the girl child and it should be embraced.
What was the results of the event?
The results have been positive, though a but slow, but we shall not give up in spreading the message.
How awesome isn’t this?! Thank you Rona for sharing the story and photos with us!
